Online Game from BrainGrade Can Raise Brain I.Q.
A company called BrainGrade has developed a training website to enhance executive brain functions. Working with cutting-edge neuroscience research and the assistance of a neurologist, the primary mission of BrainGrade is to provide online games that challenge and train people’s mental faculties. Jim Nguyen is BrainGrade’s founder and CEO, and he hopes that these games will not only entertain but also develop and maintain the cognitive, perceptual, and analytical skills of the human mind.
“The human brain is like a muscle. If you don’t use it you lose it,” says Mr. Nguyen. “The aim of braingrade.com is to be a fun site where people can log in daily and exercise their mind. It only takes a few minutes each day to play these games. Making it fun to use your noodle will improve your state of mind and overall well-being.”
Mr. Nguyen says the site has just opened with new features still being developed. He hopes to expand the online site once users begin to use the system and give feedback. He is certain that users will have a unique experience that will provide significant benefits.
“I have strong hope that the website will help people. We are continually thinking of new ideas for games that exercise different parts of the brain. Ultimately, we want a portal where anyone can come to our site and configure a tailored mental workout plan.”
On the front page of braingrade.com, there is a quick test that anyone can take which will give the user a general mental assessment. Upon completion of the quick test, the website logs the user into the system and reveals more training games. Each game takes about one minute to complete and the score is recorded daily to track personal progress. The goal is to achieve the highest grade, an “A+.”
There are other video games that are similar to BrainGrade’s training games including “Brain Age,” and “Big Brain Academy,” all offered by Nintendo on its Nintendo DS handheld system. “Our games are different,” says Mr. Nguyen. “We are here for the World Wide Web and anyone with Internet access will be able to play. Our data collection system is also more sophisticated.”
BrainGrade is based in San Diego, CA and operates its primary business online. They will be submitting their website to next year’s Independent Games Festival.
